Margy Brill, LCSW

she/her/hers

There are unique, transformative opportunities for restoration and growth that come from cultivating authentic relationships, and this is what I strive to co-create with you. My role as a therapist is empowering and supporting you in identifying and using your unique identities, lived experiences, and strengths to navigate life stressors, cultivate safe and secure relationships with self and others, and better regulate and connect with your mind and body. We will explore this from the lens of how families, communities and systems have shaped you as a human in this world.

I primarily use a relational approach in therapy, while often integrating mindfulness practice, DBT skills, attachment and narrative reflective work, and humor into our sessions. My clinical experience has included supporting young to older adults (18+) navigating a variety of mental health conditions and life transitions, including (but not limited to) grief & loss experiences, college and career shifts, relationship dynamics, and sober curiosity with substance use.

Driven by my personal experience of grieving the death of loved ones in my life, I specialize in working with and holding space for people who are processing grief after a death-loss; I deeply believe in the importance of grieving and mourning in community with others, particularly when grief can often feel isolating and oppressive in Westernized communities and cultures. Group therapy is a profound and dynamic space for people to learn from and support each other, and I currently facilitate multiple grief support groups and workshops at Room to Breathe.

I completed my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in 2021 after working 10+ years with education and housing-advocacy nonprofit organizations. Prior to this, I graduated in 2011 from Kalamazoo College with my Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology and sociology, which continues to center my work from a social justice lens and social systems framework.

I am currently licensed to work with residents of Illinois or Washington (state) for both individual and group therapy. Workshops are open to anyone and not limited to IL or WA residents!
