Reclaiming the Choice: A Harm Reduction and Sober Curiosity Workshop for Adults {ONLINE}

  • Room to Breathe Psychotherapy & Yoga (map)

A workshop for adults who are curious about their relationship to alcohol and other substances.

Maybe you’ve noticed the second drink showing up before you decided on it or maybe you’ve found yourself taking an edible without the desire. Maybe nothing feels “wrong,” exactly, and you’re just curious what life would feel like with a little less, or none, or something different. Our relationships with substances are rarely as simple as “problem” or “no problem.” Drinking and using often do something for us: they soothe, they cope, they connect, they celebrate, they quiet the noise. And sometimes substances end up taking away from the values we hold or the lives we want to live. In short, you might be asking: “Is this still working for me?”

In this gentle, supportive, and direct 2-hour online workshop, you’re invited to join Em, one of our behavioral therapists at Room to Breathe, to:

1. Explore your relationship with substances with curiosity rather than judgment: what substances provide, cost, and where urges might come from;

2. Learn about the neuroscience of reinforcement cycles and substance use;

3. Practice mindfulness and somatic skills to develop agency in your choices and values;

4. Be in community with others who are asking the same questions, without labels or verdicts.

What to expect:

  • Psychoeducation on the continuum of use, what substances do for us, and the cycles that keep patterns going

  • Mindfulness and somatic practices to aid in reclaiming agency and choice

  • Practical, judgment-free harm reduction information and resources

  • Written and oral reflection, individually and in community

  • To protect participants’ privacy, only the teaching portions are recorded. All registrants get access to that recording for 30 days, plus a follow-up email with slides and additional resources.

This workshop is educational and is not a substitute for treatment or medical detox. If you drink or use heavily every day, please talk with a medical provider before stopping, as withdrawal can be dangerous.

Cost: Sliding scale pricing, $40-70; choose the amount that aligns with your financial situation. If this doesn’t feel financially feasible for you but would like to join the workshop, please reach out to Em directly to inquire about additional sliding scale options!
