Sankalpa: The Power of Intention

Sankalpa: The Power of Intention

with Stéphanie Bour

Explore the yogic perspective on new year's resolution: sankalpa. This powerful practice for realizing your most heartfelt desires, doesn’t ask you to change who you are but assumes that you already are who you need to be to fulfill your dharma, your purpose in life.

All you need to do is focus your mind and take time to listen to your inner wisdom. By allowing us to see clearly what we really seek, sankalpa empowers the mind to move from intention to realization.

This workshop will guide you through this process as we:

  • Learn the meaning of sankalpa in the tantric tradition.
  • Practice postures, breathwork and meditation designed to support self-inquiry.
  • Experience a guided process of journaling to reveal our heartfelt desires.
  • Create a strong and lasting resolution connected to our own truth and purpose.
  • Practice Yoga Nidra to cultivate a deep relaxed state and plant the seeds of sankalpa in our receptive and prepared subconscious mind.

The most effective sankalpa is made when you are not intellectually active but when your mind is calm and quiet. Yoga Nidra is one of the most powerful technique to find this state of pure-being.

Because, once identified and set, your initial sankalpa might evolve or you might feel it need to be strengthened or refined, this workshop will be offered on January 8 and September 17th as well. These follow-up sessions will give you the opportunity to check in with your intention, shift it as needed, and re-establish your commitment. A discount is offered if you purchase sessions throughout 2017.

Beginner’s Philosophy: Practical, Modern Yogic Wisdom

with Serena Brommel

Saturday, May 6, 2017, 10am-12:30pm
$35

How do the physical practices of yoga postures and breathing techniques relate to the deeper work of resolving emotions and inducing mental clarity? This workshop aims to demonstrate the clear linkages between the primary tools of breath-centric yoga and the foundations of meditation.

Join Serena for an exploration of techniques and a discussion of the theories that drive them. Develop a deeper understanding of what you’re doing on the mat that will help enrich your personal practice and build momentum for deeper, more effective yoga.

Through our practice and conversation we will:

  • Learn how breath-centric yoga develops concentration

  • Explore energy from a yogic perspective

  • Look for stillness through opposing movement

  • Conceive the mind as a field of movement that we can actively influence

  • Discuss common misconceptions that may impede our growth

This is not an advanced practice; all techniques we explore will be accessible to newer students. A little prior yoga experience will be helpful, but it is not required. Wear comfortable clothing for gentle movement, and a pad and pen in case you want to take notes.

Practical Pranayama

With Adam Grossi

Pranayama is a fascinating and powerful form of yoga practice. If asana is the yoga of posture, pranayama is the yoga of breath. It involves the skillful harnessing of breath and attention to increase vitality, shift mental states, and prepare for contemplative practices like meditation. This workshop will demystify the theory that drives pranayama and introduce gentle techniques that are accessible at any level of experience.

Healing the Warrior Woman

Healing the Warrior Woman

with Kathleen Katsikeas

When we think "warrior," often we describe an ancient hero (usually in a cheesy Hollywood movie), who defies all realms of reality to overcome immense obstacles, and has a 6-pack on top of that. But in reality, the warrior woman is one who lives in present time AND overcomes obstacle after obstacle. Her triumphs are often silent ones, or silenced; she has to fight her way to be seen, because she is asked so often to disappear.

In this workshop we will delve in to what it means to be a woman/female-identifying in our day and age, looking at the overall perspective of woman-hood, and the social programming that interweaves. We will discuss where women are discouraged/encouraged, invalidated/validated in both general and personal experience. As well as, how we can support and uplift ourselves and one another.

This event is open for all women/female-identifying persons.

Lecture & Discussion, Gentle Asana, and a mini-female energy healing on all students.

Class size limited to 10 people. Register early to save your spot. Cost: $30
